Should I get a Ferret?

Hi, I live in the country side and my bday is coming up and I might be getting a dog but then I though tof ferrets. I also have a cat, will my cat kill it? Do ferrets hang around in cages and can I cuddle them or do they bite? neeeeeeedddd ADVICE!!
